Grab your passport and pack your bags because you're about to embark on a weekend-long party!
The Villa Medicea di Lilliano Wine Estate is located just 15-25 minutes outside of the city of Florence, amongst brimming olive trees and vineyards as far as the eye can see.
Whilst we would love for all of our guests to stay onsite with us, there are only a number of suites available, in which we will allocate to immediate family and wedding party first.
There are a large amount of accommodation options in the local area and in the city of Florence.
Within the city of Florence
The wedding venue is only 15-25 minutes from within the city of Florence and so city hotels are also a great option if you like being surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the historic city. The only thing to note if you stay in the city is that parking could be an issue if you rent a vehicle but there are hundreds of taxis to take you from A to B!
In the rolling hills
If you'd prefer to be within the rolling hills just outside of the city, please see some suggestions below but feel free to search for villas in the local area on booking engines such as Airbnb because theres some incredible places for all budgets and group sizes.
Whilst doing a walk through of our venue and food tasting (in September), we stayed at villa Borgo Battalia. Borgo is a large Tuscan villa, with 15 separate outhouses that sleep between 2-7 per unit. The venue is a mile from the local town Grassina, which is a small village with bars, restaurants (including a great pizzerias, thats €7 for a full pie!), bakery and small market. The villa is also a 10min drive from the wedding venue, where we will be hosting Saturday and Sundays events.
The venue and grounds are stunning, it’s an old villa, in a rustic farmhouse style, with a pool and views across the Tuscan mountains with vineyards and olive groves as far as the eye can see.
The rooms themselves are very basic, but have all the amenities you would need. They all have kitchens (all full utensils, pans, plates etc) , lounges areas, bathroom and bedrooms.
Whilst the rooms are pretty basic, they have some nice touches like fresh ground coffee and maker, some breakfast items, fresh milk, oil and balsamic Vinegar. We also got a bottle of local chianti from the owner. We booked this villa through Airbnb.
Note: This property has a 4 night minimum booking option only for the Summer season.
This is a sister property to the wedding venue and has come highly recommended to our guests. We believe it is more of a hotel on the wine estate with all amenities you could need and more. This accommodation is 15 minutes from the wedding venue in the rolling hills. If you are interested in staying here, please text us for a discount code we were given. We're not sure how much discount it gives but this could be a nice option for couples or smaller groups.

We have a couple of large party villas pre-booked in the local area if you and your group are interested, please reach out personally to us. Each villa is incredibly beautiful with great outdoor space and swimming pools.

Airports
The nearest airport options include, Florence (around a 25 min drive), Pisa (around 1 hr 10 drive) and Bologna (around 1 hr 20 drive).
Florence is a very small airport with limited flights, which also might be a little more expensive. Pisa and Bologna are both international airports and therefore have more flight options. There are buses available from the airports into Florence city.
Car Hire & Taxi's
Hiring a car is the best suggested way to get around Italy but there are also a lot of taxi's available in the local area and hundreds within the city of Florence. If you're contemplating hiring a car, we would advise you make a reservation in advance to get the best prices - be aware most prices you see on the rental website won't include insurance options, as these are usually added on at pick-up. There are many car rental options available at the airports. And lastly to note, we would recommend that if you're thinking of renting a car, that you are a fairly confident driver - the Italians are some crazy drivers. Although Helen felt like she was in a game of real-life Mario cart and loved it!
In terms of taxi's, there are many local taxi's available but most need pre-booking (not from the airports). We will be adding these taxi numbers to the website for ease soon. Uber is sometimes available around the city or from airport but can be extremely expensive and long wait times and so we'd recommend using the local services over Uber.
Recommendation: If there's a group of you traveling together it might be worth while pre-booking a large taxi/car hire between you all to save money.
Note: You might prefer the taxi option if you know you're going to want to consume all of the amazing local wines at all events (Friday - Monday). It can also be a challenge to park in the city of Florence when visiting or staying there, however there are underground parking options scattered around.
Train
If you'd prefer alternative travel options, maybe you'd like to opt for the fast and comfortable trains from Florence: around 90 minutes to Rome, two hours to Venice and less than three hours to Naples.
